Senior Vice President Surgical, Procedural and Imaging Services, Facilities and Operations
David McCready is a healthcare executive with 22 years of strategic and operations leadership experience in academic medical centers, large physician organizations, and top-tier healthcare management consulting. Mr. McCready has focused his professional work on leading physician and hospital operations and driving change across ambulatory, surgical, medical, procedural, and imaging services. He has particular expertise in developing and executing strategic plans to affect organizational change, financial improvement, and sustainable operational efficiencies within a culture of competing institutional missions requiring sensitive diplomacy.
Mr. McCready currently serves as Senior Vice President of Surgical, Procedural, and Imaging Services, Facilities and Operations at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), a $3 billion, 779-bed quaternary care academic medical center in Boston, with nearly 16,000 employees, 1,200 employed physicians, 46,000 annual admissions, 150 outpatient practices, 770,000 annual ambulatory visits, 1,100 trainees, and $650 million in total annual research funding (including $350 million from NIH). BWH has ranked on the U.S. News and World Report Best Hospitals Honor Roll for 24 consecutive years.
At BWH, Mr. McCready serves as the executive responsible for the operations and staffing of all surgical and peri-operative services, interventional procedural services, and imaging services and modalities at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Major clinical assets under his direct purview include 47 ORs, 9 cardiac intervention labs (CCL, EP), 13 endoscopy suites, 10 interventional radiology suites, and 27 major imaging units (MR, CT, PET, SPEC/CT). In addition, Mr. McCready serves as the senior leader responsible for all functions related to BWH facilities and support services operations across 6.5 million square feet of hospital-occupied space, directing the activities of construction and facilities planning, engineering, dietary services, security, transportation, environmental services, environmental safety, and materials management. He holds management responsibility for nearly 2,225 hospital staff employees and over $1.5 billion in annual technical clinical charges, generating $490 million/year of hospital direct margin.
During his 12 year tenure at BWH, Mr. McCready also served as Senior Vice President of Clinical and Ambulatory Services, and as Vice Chair for Administration and Finance in the Department of Medicine. Prior to his joining BWH in 2005, Mr. McCready served as Deputy Executive Director of the Department of Medicine at Boston University Medical Center, as a Manager in the Healthcare Consulting Practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers in Boston, and as Manager of Physician Mergers and Acquisitions at Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield in Pittsburgh.
